Episode 72 is an interview with Julie Emmerman. Dr. Julie Emmerman is a sport psychologist who currently works with numerous individuals on men and women’s world tour pro cycling teams, is a contract employee with USA Cycling’s High-Performance division, and provides consultation with team directors. Julie also worked with Garmin-Slipstream (EF Education First is the current incarnation) Pro Tour team from 2008-2010, one of the team’s most successful periods to date. In addition to cycling, her clientele includes NHL, track and field Olympians, professional triathlon, golf, and MMA. She is passionate about being able to play a role in the professional and personal lives of so many. I chat with Julie about how to deal with the prolonged lockdown in Melbourne, but also how to deal with the anxiety around Covid in general. We also talk about how to deal with racing anxiety. Julie is also a highly accomplished athlete herself. In 2019 she took 8th in the US Pro Women’s Time Trial. In 2018, she won Silver at the Master Track National Championships. She is also the current American national record holder for the Masters Time Trial.

Navigating Covid is a lot like trying to get to the end of an ultra. It takes focus and a positive mindset. We can see a sports psychologist to help with this mindset, but who can help us when our injuries or niggles are holding us back? The specialists at Health and High Performance can do so as they utilise the latest in technology, and experience to help you run your best. So, head to www.healthhp.com.au/run Or find them on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/healthhighperformance/ In spite of everything feeling out of control in this moment of COVID, you are actually in a position of power within yourself and how you react to this rather crappy situation. As they always say, control the controllables and focu on the future. You can do this in your running with a structured and well-planned training program with Peak Endurance Coaching. Email me isobel@peakendurancecoaching.com.au and let’s get your training moving in the right direction. Enjoy the interview with Julie!
