This is going to be an episode about giving you permission, and even a bit of encouragement, to be the villain.
I started a new job this month and at times I've felt overwhelmed by all the opportunities and activities I can be involved in. I learned from my first coach the value of asking yourself, 'If I say yes to this, what am I saying no to?' because work presents many invitations, it doesn't mean that you have to (or can) do them all.
But my current coach helped me push this critique of people pleasing a bit further, to get comfortable with 'being the villian' of disappointing others in order to stay committed to my own vision for the projects, plans and work routine I know will get me the best results.
Like most new uncomfortable patterns, it will feel safer in your body each time you 'be the villain' and see the catastrophes your brain offered don't arise. And if not.. here's my chocolate brownie recipe that helped me this week :D
Veganised Sand Art Brownies
(look em up if you want to give them away as a gift like I did when I was little)
1 cup + 2tbsp flour
2/3 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1/3 cup chocolate chips
3 flax eggs (3 tbsp flax + 3/4 cup water)
2/3 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 cup walnuts highly recommended
1. Heat oven to 350C/178F, butter a 9x9inch baking tray.
2. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. It makes a deliciously wet batter.
3. Tip batter into baking tray and bake for 20-25 minutes, you'll know it's ready when there is a sort of firm crust on top that doesn't jiggle. Although, I often aim to undercook them cuz I like em super gooey. Just describing them makes me want to go whip up another batch.
