• Public pension plans are just murder for insider Josiah Vencel
• “It’s nonfiction wrapped in fiction”
There are only a few ways to keep a public pension fund financially viable: employee contributions, taxpayer funds and returns on investments. Those are the legal ways.
But Bakersfield author Josiah Vencel has a retirement plan that’s just plain murder.
“As I was writing, I realized people don’t understand pensions,” says Mr. Vencel, author of the who-dun-it thriller, “The Pension Plan.”
“Retirees are dying at exactly 80 years old,” he says. “Their deaths appear natural so nobody realizes they’re being murdered except for one peron.”
He says he tries to entertain readers with characters and plot while teaching the basics of what otherwise is an often misunderstood – and dry – subject. “It’s nonfiction wrapped in fiction,” he says.
