Sometimes the reason our message can be misconstrued is because, we don't share the same knowledge as the person we are speaking too.
When we can understand the Bank Of Prior Knowledge (BOPK) of the person we are delivering our message to we have an increasingly better ability to get our message across.
If you start at a point that they do not have any experience or knowledge in, how can you expect them to follow along and understand as you progress further.
So start by simplifying your message and understand the BOPK of your audience.
