Arrogance is the number one enemy of most Christians. Arrogance has an exaggerated opinion of one’s own importance and ability. It progresses in stages: Self-justification leads to self-deception, then self-absorption, and often ends in self-destruction. Sometimes it takes the enforced humility of God’s discipline to get genuine humility. Humility is the opposite of arrogance. The Bible tells you to have genuine humility. “Let this mind be in you that was also in Christ Jesus who humbled Himself” (Phil 2:5). Children need to be taught humility and the Lord’s mandate to obey authority. “Children obey your parents in the Lord for this is right … so that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth” (Eph 6:1-3).
