Description

Forgiveness is unique to Christianity. God never fails to forgive. We must learn to forgive. “If someone says I love God and hates his brother, he is a liar” (1 John 4:20). How often should you forgive someone who has offended you or done something against you? the Bible says always. Retribution and retaliation are sins. Don’t go there. Recall the words of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:24). Could you say this if you were being killed? Paul wrote, “Dearly beloved do not avenge yourself but rather give place unto wrath [in other words don’t let wrath take hold of you] for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will do the repaying’ says the Lord” (Rom 12:19). Humility is key to the Christian life. Humility and forgiveness go together. Hypersensitivity is the opposite of humility and often leads to sins of vindictiveness and implacability. The believer is obligated to extend forgiveness.
