Description

Impersonal love for others is a functional virtue. “We love God because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Impersonal love is a terrific problem-solving device because the emphasis is on the virtue of the subject (you) not the object (the other person). Impersonal love is a mandate from God. “This is My mandate that you love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12). Without impersonal love you are never going to be happy because you will let people get to you. “If someone says, ‘I love God,’ but he hates his fellow man, he is a liar and the truth is not in him” (1 John 4:20-21).
