relatively humble beginnings, leanne and her unwavering commitment to always
given 100% effort 100% of the time has led to the Scottish born businesswoman
achieving a level of business success that some could only ever dream of.
Partial Transcript:
Leanne: So where to start? What do I do
right now? I am m the biggest landlord in Scotland. Residential, private
properties and I have student accommodation and I have gas and plumbing
company. I also work on rolling up various companies in different sectors.
So I've been involved in dental practices, building services businesses, and
currently working on aesthetics clinics or practices. And what I do is roll
them up by various practices and then we sell them on okay, that's interesting.
So my job and my role within the company is to find and negotiate deals which I
love. Absolutely, I've done that for years and going back to where I started
after leaving school, I was a buyer for distribution companies like Marks
and Spencer, Farm Foods, Iceland, Tibbett and Britten, 3663. So
I was a buyer. So I believe, and I stand by this to this day, that you make
more money when you buy well rather than selling, so you've got to buy and
negotiate. Well, that's what I do. So I absolutely love I'm a deal junkie. I
love people sending me deals and if it's my sector and what I'm interested in,
then I can evaluate the deal pretty quickly and say yes or no if I'm interested
in it.
Shelley: Brilliant. That's amazing because
I couldn't even know where to start with that. So you buy businesses, so are
they in trouble or the interest like passion businesses? What makes you go for
a certain kind of business?
Leanne: Well, because of my experience,
I've been asked to sit on a lot of boards. So I may not be dentistry expert,
but I sat on the board as a business expert and so for the dental, for example,
I don't know anything about dentistry, but I know about business. And the dentists
are very clever people, but they maybe don't have the business background and
running the dental practice. They're absolutely fantastic in the dental stuff,
the hands on stuff, but they don't particularly like it, dealing with the
business side of it. So I'll go in with our board and we'll support them,
inspire them, give them guidance on how to improve, but they do all the work
that they're great at. And then we buy other so if it's dental practices, for
talking sake, we will buy other dental practices and we'll share the synergies
and best practice within the group.
