This week, I'm joined by the amazing Kay McIntyre. Listen in to hear about her business, how it's grown, and even some hair tips!
Partial Transcript:
Shelley: Now, when you're
talking about that, was your mum able to give you it or was she hard on you
all of the time? And that's kind of what made you so successful. Tell me about
that.
Kay: She wasn't soft at heart at all. My
mom was. She was a really tough cookie, to be honest. Yes, she really was. And
I don't know, as I said, she was like, really, should criticize and should
never say, even when I won my first award, which was the first time I won. And
I never really thought that, we always thought the British awards were like,
oh, way beyond me. And I, remember going in for it and thinking I'll just give
it a go. Like, what have I got to lose? And I remember I won it and I couldn't
believe it myself, but and she was like, well, what do you expect? That's what
you, you should. And I was like, that's what happened. And up against the best
in Scotland and blah, blah, blah. But yeah, there was never really but I don't
know, maybe that was a good thing. But no, I'm the youngest of three, but I
wasn't spoiled by all means. My brothers would maybe disagree, but I was not.
I've been working since I was twelve. I'm 56 now, 57 this year, and I still
love it. I'm dreading the fact when I come to the point where people come at
the style and go, who's, the old beer, walking about themselves. I still love
it. I only do clients now, two days a week, because I'm really involved with
the online business. We have an online shop and that's going amazing. We have
over 15,000 online clients and that really excelled over and a lot of things
for a lot of people really, changed over COVID. They went into things and
careers and just changed things. And for us, it was like, we had an online
shop, but we really had time to work on it during COVID And it just went from,
luckily, from strength to strength. So we run that from the salon, from this
office, and all the fulfillment is done in the salon. And it's good because,
wow, yes. I don't think a lot of people realize that, but it's great for an,
SEO search and things like that. It's brilliant. M all that. The websites, yes.
So we have a digital guy that works for us two, days a week in the office. And
I'm really enjoying, that side of just the business that's changing, but in a
good way.
Shelley: Yeah, definitely. That's great to
hear. I didn't know that. I didn't know you've had a massive online business.
Now, sales, what are you selling?
Kay: Everything. Mostly electrical. Like
our biggest, I would say, our biggest thing is electrical. So we've always
got the latest tools out. We're always the first to get it because I used to be
a Ambassador and do a lot of work with them. but yeah, because we sell a lot,
we're forced to get try out things. anything from Kevastas, products, Shamura,
brushes, you name it. There's a lot of things on there. And we've got a lot of
loyal clients, including our own clients, if they can't get the salon, they'll
buy from us online.
