In this episode: we will be discussing the importance of the family vegetable garden in the Italian tradition. Instead of our usual two-guest format, we will be talking to four individuals about their personal experiences of maintaining a vegetable garden and its importance in the Italian tradition and the  Italian American identity. In the first half of the show we will speak with Mary Menniti, Founder of the Italian Garden Project, and Rosetta Costantino, author of the cookbooks, “My Calabria” and “Southern Italian Desserts” who has an extensive Calabrese style garden, and later we will speak Michela Smith, the director of the short documentary film,“Heirloom”, and her mother, Sandi Grosso (aka ZiaBeddainthegarden on Instagram). The film focuses on a mother and daughter who set out to discover why Italian Americans love to garden. .
