Had a random thought about why followers don't really matter that much. It's based on a documentary about how wealth grows. Made me realize how meaningless the idea of followers and likes really are because they are not scarce. It doesn't cost anything to follow millions upon millions of people. I wonder what would happen to the algorithms if we could have a bot make everyone follow everyone.
Ultimately, followers and likes have no meaning because they have no cost. Therefore I have a hunch that follower count and likes will either become so inflated they will lose all meaning or the platforms will introduce scarcity to the system to keep social currency relevant.
