Description

Today, I have the pleasure of speaking with Leor, talented designer, musician and a good friend. I wanted to speak with Leor about her relationship with Hebrew although she isn’t fluent in the language at all. You see, one of the goals of this podcast is to celebrate language at any stage we’re in as learners. Though Leor isn’t fluent in Hebrew, her relationship to the language tied into her heritage as a woman of Israeli descent is valuable.
I think this conversation is important because while I could only talk to people who have mastered many languages on this show,  I also love to talk people who have exposure to other languages but haven’t gained fluency. Every stage of language learning and acquisition is valid.

I also wanted to talk to her as a native New Yorker, like me, learning a second language through the Department of Education school system. I’ve often been vocal about how I wish there was more emphasis on second language early on our education here, so I was happy to talk about this with someone else who experienced the same issues that I did.

I have to tell you all that this episode is just a laugh out loud gab fest from the start because in addition to being a wonderful designer and musician, Leor is also one of the funniest people I know. So get ready because we’re discussing Hebrew, Israeli culture, Yiddish, German and she even quizzes me on British slang. I hope you’ll enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed recording it. And if you do enjoy it, please feel free to rate and review on itunes so that other language lovers like us will be able to find this show.
