Description

Today we’re doing things a bit differently. Usually, we’re talking about languages other than english and but today we’re talking about The Bahamian dialect of english with the founder of iisabahamianbey, Kache Knowles.

I’ll mention in a minute why this episode is so close to my heart but first I want to talk about why this episode is an important milestone not just for this podcast but also why it’s so important to have this conversation.

English is spoken all over the world in many countries as a first language and with the spread of english comes the regional dialects that enrich the way the language is spoken. In the past, many of these dialects have been dismissed as “improper” or “broken” English. One of the aims of this show is to celebrate all languages and I particularly feel that there’s no such thing as a language that is “broken”. When you can communicate with others around you effectively, there’s nothing broken or improper about language.

This conversation was so much fun for me to have on a personal level and connecting with someone who truly loves her culture and her country so much.

So take the time to listen to this conversation and the next time you think about The Bahamas or visiting the islands, please consider that there is life to be had beyond the resorts and casinos. Think about how beyond the beautiful landscape, the pristine beaches and the fresh seafood there is a country with a rich past, a powerful present and a bright future. Much thanks to Kache of iisabahamianbey for having this conversation with me and sharing the best of Bahamian culture with all of us.
