So far in the biblical narrative, God’s desire to rule the world through his image bearing humans didn’t go so well. But despite human rebellion on individual, corporate, and societal levels, God is not willing to give up on his purposes. So he chose Abraham, through who he promised to create a people who God would use to bless the nations…. But they are a hot mess too and and they fumble around… a lot. Through honor and shame, God’s chosen people find them selves in Egypt enslaved to an oppressive pharaoh. Moses managed to flee and finds himself tending a flock in the wilderness away from the pain of the Israelites.
----------REFLECT----------
1 - The place you are standing is Holy Ground for the Spirit of God is with you. Take a moment to invite the Holy Spirit to be present to you right now.
2 - What about the world today? What misery would the LORD see? What cries would He hear? What suffering would He be concerned with? Take a moment to reflect on ways that little pharaohs still hold people captive today.
3 - Pause and pray to this same LORD, for chains to be loosed, for idols to be brought low, and for the rescuing power of the resurrection to be poured out in our world.
