Welcome to the first episode of the Summer 16 Bookclub!
We are kicking things off with Chapters 1-7 of Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler.  Join us for this great conversation and engage with us on this weeks discussion questions:

A large focus of the novel is climate change. How does Butler render environmental crisis? What are the larger social effects in the novel of environmental crisis? In what ways does the novel forecast current conversations around climate change and human agency in global warming?
What is the role of religion in the novel, both the religion in which one is raised, and the religion that one might discover or invent?
Lauren suffers from an affliction called hyperempathy; how is her disability her weakness, and how is it her strength? What caused it, and what is its deeper significance for Lauren's characterization?

What are your thoughts? What did you feel about our takes thus far? We'd love to hear from you!
As always you can connect with us via email at summer16podcast@gmail.com and the conversation will be happening weekly in our GoodReads group Summer 16 Bookclub
