Christ emptied Himself of some of the benefits of deity while on earth (Phil. 2). He needed the Holy Spirit to speak to Him - and He was able to perfectly hear - to accomplish the things He did. Mother Susan Rhodes talks about this in relation to the story of the woman at the well in John 4.
