In Matthew 14, Jesus withdraws to a solitary place after the loss of His cousin. Even in deep pain, when thousands press around Him, His response is compassion.
As it grew late, the disciples began to realise the need. There were so many people, and they would soon become hungry. All they had were five loaves and two fish. Their thinking was earthly and governed by the world.
The Kingdom of God will always confront our limitations. Our natural human ability is insufficient to deal with a broken humanity. But when we have Jesus, we have access to unlimited supply from Heaven. He is the bridge that brings unity between Heaven and earth.
Just as Jesus broke bread to feed the multitudes, in the breaking of our lives, God desires to feed nations. When we lift up our eyes and see that our help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth, and when we give thanks, we begin to speak His language. As children, free of heavy yokes, we discover this truth: with Jesus, there is always more than enough.
