The word transaction is used in the field of relationships to describe the action of conducting business, as defined by the Oxford dictionary. When a business transaction occurs, there are pre-determined terms for buying and selling, profit and loss, and a variety of other considerations.
Relationships that are transactional are similar. Marriages may have been eulogized by Romantics as a bond based on love, chemistry, compatibility, and other factors. While transactional relationships may or may not contain these aspects, they all have a business component to them. As in a business transaction, there are expectations, reciprocation, and some handy arrangements.
