The government protects the monopoly of only 6 companies that control the oil sector, there is little capitalism. If capitalism were allowed there would be competition. The high gas prices are an opportunity for entrepreneurial and innovative people to come in and find a way to make it cheaper, faster, and better. Big oil has no incentive to produce more oil.
