Each year, when February rolls around, I can't help but turn my attention to relationships. It's hard not to, when we are surrounded by marketing about, the now almost ubiquitous celebration of, Valentine's Day. Like many modern holidays, I wonder why we've dedicated this single day to celebrate love, particularly romantic love. And yet, it is a good reminder to pay attention to our relationships, romantic or otherwise.
Like it or not, relationships form a core part of our lives. As they say, people come into our lives for 'a reason, a season, or a lifetime'. And especially in long relationships, it's interesting to observe the cycle of closeness and distance.
