Pastors Blaire, Joey, and Rob discuss what be filled by the Holy Spirit is NOT.
BEING FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT IS NOT:
1. Being filled with the Spirit is NOT typically a dramatic, mysterious experience of suddenly being energized and spiritualized into a state of permanent spiritual maturity.
Acts 2:1 (NIV84) 1When the day of Pentecost came . . ..
2. Being filled with the Spirit is NOT stoically striving to do what God wants us to do with the Holy Spirit’s blessings, but basically in our own power.
3. Being filled with the Spirit is NOT the same as being indwelt by the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit indwells every believer at the moment of salvation.
Romans 8:9 (NIV84) 9 . . . And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.
4. Being filled with the Spirit does NOT describe a process of progressively receiving him by degrees or in doses.
John 3:34 (GW) 34The man whom God has sent speaks God’s message. After all, God gives him the Spirit without limit.
5. Being filled with the Spirit is NOT the same as the baptism of the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:13 (GW) 13By one Spirit we were all baptized into one body. Whether we are Jewish or Greek, slave or free, God gave all of us one Spirit to drink.
6. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is NOT the same as being sealed or secured in Him.
Ephesians 1:13 (NIV84) 13And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.
