The word “leader” is often associated with power, authority, and the ability to make decisions that shape the future of their organizations.
However, what many people fail to realize is that leaders are also followers. Successful leaders know that in order to lead effectively, they must also be able to follow the lead of others, whether it be their team members, mentors, or even their own instincts.
By being open to learning from others and being willing to take direction, leaders can inspire their team members to do the same and create a culture of growth and collaboration.
This is the starting point of the conversation I had with Matthew Gould, a fellow coach, and guest in this episode of “When Leaders Talk”
Matthew Gould defines himself as a perpetual student of leadership. He’s also the co-founder of More Co Ltd., a company that helps leaders and teams generate extraordinary results and exceptional relationships.
What makes the conversation with Matthew truly interesting and inspiring is his deep understanding that leaders are not only leaders but also followers. He believes that leaders who can follow well can also lead well, and he shares his insights on how this can positively impact their teams and organizations.
We also delved into the often-overlooked aspect of leadership: loneliness. Matthew and I discussed how leaders often feel isolated. I must confess we have a slightly different view and experience on it. Nonetheless, Matthew offered practical hints on how leaders can overcome this challenge and lead with confidence and authenticity.
Finally, we explored the idea of leaving a positive impact. Starting from the belief that everyone is a leader, Matthew and I stressed the importance of leaving this planet a better place than we found it, as Baden-Powell said.
If you're a leader or aspire to become one, I highly recommend this episode. There is a lot to take in!

"When Leaders Talk" is about leadership and, most importantly, leaders. They tell their stories, experiences, and leadership style. I interview successful people coming from different environments and leading teams of diverse sizes, from big enterprises to small companies, to the individual level. We hear their tales of how they navigate life, how they face challenges and failures, and how they lead their team. We understand what is important to them, and what makes them strong leaders. These "masters of the sea" take us onboard their boats to show us how they cross the ocean and reach their destination safely and successfully.
I hope this episode will make you curious enough to listen to or view the next episodes.
