Maintaining a positive body image for yourself wont always be easy. These days with the internet trolls, "health" magazines and media in general showing you what your body is "supposed" to look like can get pretty overwhelming if you don't fit the mold. I can say from experience that thinking negatively about your body can lead to tons of unhelpful habits. From yoyo dieting & binging to ultra strict eating and exercise routines. I'm here to tell you that when you truly love and honor your body, you'll automatically do what's best for it. Some days it does include having that ice cream, other days you'll intuitively eat tons of greens. Some days will include tons of rest, other days you'll be dancing non-stop. Tap into your intuition and ask your body what it needs. Most likely, it just needs your love.
3 Ways To Create A Positive Body Image:
- Prioritize Yourself: You body does so much for you. Start asking what it needs. Does your body need more rest or more movement today? Do you need to indulge in sweets today or is your body actually craving protein. If you're not sure, try the protein (or healthier option) first and then see if you still want the sweets. Practice prioritizing your mental and physical wellbeing. The goal is to feel good no matter what, not fit someone else's mold.
- Flip The Script: Any time you notice yourself criticizing that cellulite or that mum tum, take each negative thought that you catch and flip it into a compliment instead. I like to do this in the mirror. For example if you have a mum tum that you're constantly shaming yourself for, try placing your hands gently on your belly and say "thank you for protecting me, and growing my baby. I appreciate your presence and your purpose"
- Mirror Work: Like flip the script, this is best done using the mirror. You can listen to these affirmations on repeat (Link Below) while looking at yourself in the mirror. Feel free to repeat them to yourself out loud or in your head (audibly is best for this practice so that you can actually hear yourself giving the compliments). This will retrain your brain to appreciate and honor your body for being the beautiful vessel that it is. It's also a great idea to journal your experience while doing this type of mirror work. Note how you feel each time and you'll begin to see the mental improvements, maybe even some physical improvements as well just by shifting your mindset to a more loving and nurturing state of being.
