Procrastination is usually the body's stress response system simply trying to avoid re-experiencing a stressful situation or traumatic event in order to not get overwhelmed. It can cause us to miss deadlines, lose out on opportunities, and generally feel overwhelmed and stressed anyways. Some of the major reasons someone might procrastinate often are lack of knowledge, lack of self-esteem or lack of motivation.
A personal example of mine is video editing. I'm a one-lady-show here at BuildLifeBalance. Building the back end of the business, web design & creation, podcast host, social media content creator & manager and now a virtual course creator... I've had to self-learn every step of the way, which is extremely daunting! Just when you think cool, I can chill, there's something else to learn. I'm currently in the middle of creating a 12-week Clarity & Confident course to expand my biz and extend the ripple effect of discovering your authentic self to gain the confidence you need to Build Life Balance. I finally built up the courage to record all of the videos for the course (I had no idea what I was doing) and they literally sat there for months before I was able to build up the courage to even watch one video, much less start editing. First off, it was really weird seeing myself on screen, I also didn't know how to edit videos! I finally did enough research, found a free software (ClipChamp if you're in the same boat as I was) that is semi-user friendly, & watched enough tutorials on YouTube to feel confident enough to start editing and low and behold I can finally do a descent edit. Am I the best? No, not by far, but I'm not bad either. So in short, I procrastinated because I didn't know what the heck I was doing or where to begin. The trick is... Just Start Somewhere.
When we start to Pre-Crastinate, we start getting things done sooner rather than later and this leads to heaps of less stress and anxiety that comes with procrastinating. No more looming shadows or feelings of heaviness, because everything is already on it's way to getting done.
