Letting go of the past can take time. Be sure you give yourself the grace and the space to heal and move forward. It's important to let go of the past to make room for new opportunities. Letting go of the past can be incredibly beneficial for your overall well-being. Dwelling on past mistakes or negative experiences can lead to feelings of regret, guilt, anxiety, and depression. By letting go of the past, you give yourself the power to free yourself from these negative emotions and focus on the present moment.
3 Ways To Practice Letting Go Of The Past:
- Practice Mindfulness; Using tools like yoga, breathwork and meditation can help you to become more aware of your thoughts, emotions and sensations. The more you practice mindfulness, the more present you will become and the easier it will be to let go of the past.
- Seek Therapy: Talk therapy, art therapy, family therapy, guided psilocybin therapy, couples counseling, animal-assisted therapy... the list goes on. The world is full of so many therapeutic avenues these days. Finding the right one for you can open up a world of awareness that can help you let go of the past and be happy in the now.
- Affirmations or Mantras: Mantra, directly translated from Sanskrit, means "a tool for the mind." Creating a word or short phrase to help you come back into the present moment at any given time. Try closing your eyes and repeating "I am here, I am now" until you realize that you in fact, here and now. It helps to tap on your chest or your forehead while repeating your mantra to have a physical sensation to focus on.
