To seize the opportunity in setting, examining and investigating a flame as the match is lit--when the stove has been ignited, when buildings or bushes burn--many things are seen such as dimension, colour, depth, burn pattern variation, and, among other factors, things which affect its strength. They all need oxygen, fuel and heat to burn. If we look a bit closer, we can realize that they all burn in an upward direction. Fire defies the laws of gravity. The pull of gravity draws colder, denser air down to the base of the flame, displacing the hot air, which rises. This convection process feeds fresh oxygen to the fire, which burns until it runs out of fuel. The upward flow of air is what gives a flame its teardrop shape and causes it to flicker. This is an illustration of understanding.
Wisdom and understanding can be found in one place: in God alone. The giving of these attributes are gifts from God, derived from the study of divine concepts and precepts. It should be accepted that hearing is not an assurance of understanding. Morality and character are developed with understanding.
