Description

This episode kicks off a 5 part series in which Nick and Ted dive into education and what has gone wrong in the American education system, as long as some potential solutions. Part 1 goes over the history of education. Starting with an op-ed written in 1991 by John Taylor Gatto after he won NY City teacher of the year in 1989, 1990, and 1991 as well as NY State teacher of the year in 1991, Nick and Ted then start going over the history of education with a focus on primary/elementary education in America.

The reading of the op-ed, “I Quit, I Think” goes from 7:04 to 11:32 and the history of early American education starts around 29:24. Before that, Nick and Ted go over some points from the op-ed, discuss the misunderstood history of education in ancient Rome and Greece, and discuss different elements of education. Links to the studies and articles mentioned can be found under the time stamps.
