2 Samuel 9 describes how David kept his covenant commitment to Jonathan after Jonathan’s death. God’s covenantal love is not just mere a promise but is put into action. This is seen and fulfilled in the historic event of the cross and the empty tomb. Mephibosheth did not deserve David’s hesed. After all, he was part of the household of his enemy, Saul. But David loved him anyway. God shows the same hesed love to the elect through his Son Jesus Christ.
