Ever heard of Ned Flanders? He's the overly religious caricature on the Simpson's cartoon. While everyone knows it's poking fun at Christians (particularly the irrationally moral ones), his overly positive comes off as a painful correlation: Christians can sometimes be unrealistic in their teflon emotions, coming off as fake - and worse - actually faking happinness because, well, "that's what Christians are supposed to be". The problem is that Christians are just as prone to mental and emotional distress as anyone. The joy of the Lord doesn't mean we won't have heartbreak. We just realize that we don't walk alone in the valley of the shadow of death (Ps. 23:4).
Barry Anderson spoke on mental health, and we sat down to discuss this timely and important topic of discipleship.
This is the topic of this week's podcast! Don't miss Sean and Nate's discussion!
