One of the most distinctive characteristics of Christianity is that Jesus himself makes certain promises that are eternal and profoundly encompassing. Take, for instance, when he says: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Mt. 11:28-30. He is saying that he will categorically be there for you! He wants to help you and give you rest! Who else promises that - and stands behind his own compassion and love?
