As Kern County Fentanyl crisis continues to plague our area, there are doctors who work tirelessly to help those looking for help with managing their addictions. In this episode, Dr. Matthew Beare explains what Clinica Sierra Vista is doing to combat the Fentanyl crisis from the city to the country and back.
With more than 20 years of connection to the San Joaquin Valley, Dr. Matthew Beare has spent the entirety of his medical career focusing on serving marginalized populations, with special attention given to homeless patients and those who suffer from long term substance use disorders. As a Board-Certified Family Medicine Physician, he serves as the Medical Director of Special Populations for Clinica Sierra Vista, where he also heads up the Street Medicine outreach teams. He can be found in his clinic on Baker Street, or with his team on the riverbanks along the Kern River where he provides on-site healthcare to homeless patients directly in their encampments. Additionally, he is one of few doctors in this community to provide Medication Assisted Treatment, offering a more sustainable and long-term treatment for people suffering from opioid use disorder.
