Are there connections between our time spent outside and our outlook on life? Should we be surprised to find that our well-being is connected to our connection with the “natural world”?
In this episode, Caleb welcomes Makayla Johnson to the show with a lively discussion on her research on the impact of gardening on perceptions of hope, hopelessness, and levels of anxiety.

Makayla wears a lot of hats in life! She is a pastor, professor, master naturalist, and amateur birder. She spends most of her year in Costa Rica as the Program Coordinator of the Quetzal Education and Research Center which is a study abroad program run by Southern Nazarene University where she co-teaches Biblical Theology and Global Stewardship with her husband Caleb. She spends her free time with a pair of binoculars and the Merlin app trying to identify local birds.
