Side Passage: Exodus 12:1-27
DISCUSSION & REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
What’s your first reaction to thinking of Jesus as a 12-year-old middle-school-aged kid?
Since Jesus experienced a fully-human life, he experienced all the challenges of growing up, learning new things, navigating social situations, etc. How does that impact your understanding of Jesus?
What kinds of things do you think Jesus might have been asking the religious elders about? What is your reaction to the fact that Jesus was in the Temple that day, learning about his religion, his sacred scriptures, and his own Father? At age 12, how much do you think Jesus knew and understood about his full identity and his purpose for coming to earth?
What steps do you think Jesus (and his parents’) took in order for him to continue growing in wisdom from age 12 onward? What steps do you take to continue growing in wisdom, at whatever age you may be?
BONUS: Each time you see a 12-year-old, remember that Jesus was that age once, following his interests, trying to figure out life. Show them (and all other aged children and teens) the genuine interest and attention they deserve.
