Accountable to God – Romans 14:10-12 “So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.” But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 11 For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.” So, then each of us shall give account of himself to God.”

Accountable to Each Other – James 5:16 “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

Accountability Gives You Strength – Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron,

So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”

Accountability Gives You Protection – Hebrews 13:17 “Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.”

Biblical Examples of Accountability

1 Timothy 1:1-2 “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Saviour and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope, to Timothy, my true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.”

2 Timothy 1:1-2 “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus, To Timothy, my beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Titus 1:4-5, “To Titus, my true son in our common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.”

Not only grace, but mercy and peace were obviously important to Paul as we see in his greetings to Timothy and Titus, his sons in the faith. Timothy and Titus were young pastors and Paul had the responsibility of leading them. My bible suggested that Paul wrote 1 Timothy as a reference manual for leadership so that Timothy will have effective guidance for his work during Paul’s absence in Macedonia. Paul wrote 2 Timothy as an encouragement to faithfully endure and carry on the work that Paul must relinquish. Paul wrote Titus to give him strength and exhort him to firmly exercise his authority over the church at Crete. Basically, Titus is the conduct manual for church living.

What a great example Paul has set for us. His letters to Timothy and Titus are letters of encouragement to grow in their own faith as they are examples to others.
