In the 50s, the Ministry of Health in Terrassa, Spain opened up a hospital in the La Pineda forest that was active between 1952 and 1997. The hospital was called Hopital Thorax, and when it was active it was primarily a recovery center because the area they built it in was known for having no fog, being protected from northwest wind, and even had a mild climate in summer which would be perfect for tuberculosis recovery. And it had the lowest TB rate so would be perfect. If you don’t know much about TB, it’s a respiratory illness with a really high mortality rate and the treatment that cured the disease took 18 months. During these months, the patients would be completely isolated from their friends and family. And the detrimental toll this isolation took on their mental health led many of them to suicide. Many people report hearing voices and seeing apparitions roaming the hallways and the garden where many lost their lives…
Stay safe out there.
