This episode was born out of a desire to keep God as the only one who keeps us steady, holds us firm, sees us through every storm, and makes us unshakeable. Everyone of us fight the tendency to replace God with all sorts of other things. For some it's the toys they hold on to while for others it's the vacation they desperately want. Many turn to some form of addiction to try and find some relief from pain, anger, loneliness, or grief. Whatever it is, if it's not Jesus, it's a stumbling block for us that must be turned over. Some of those things may be totally benign ways to spend our time and money but if we're replacing God with anything else, we won't be resilient when the storms of life really hit us...and they hit us all.
