When you are first appointed to a leadership role, it’s important to understand and accept that you aren’t fully qualified; in fact, often times you’re terrified.
New leaders: seek input, ask questions. Fall on your sword when its necessary.

You build trust with your team when you lead with humility.
Accelerate new leaders by passing on leadership lessons you’ve learned.
New leaders need to experience failures and setbacks — but not catastrophic.
Training for leaders must be an ongoing process.
Mentoring vs. Training
Structured training — procedures, rules, etc. is necessary. But training that includes mentoring is most effective.
Mentoring as a program provides a platform for the leader to bring challenges, issues and questions.
Training is destination-based. It has a start and end. Upon completion, the result is you are done.
Mentoring is direction-based; ongoing.
Choose a mentor wisely… The best mentors openly admit they don’t have all the answers. They listen and provide perspective, not just spew knowledge that they think that you, the mentee, needs or wants. It should be a conversation.
The best leaders surround themselves with multiple mentors.
Find mentors who don’t think like you. They bring an entirely different perspective to your life.
Tips for new leaders:
