Description

Hate crimes against transgender people have risen exponentially over the years. Mental Health support is not where it should be.

This episode explores three cases of transgender individuals and seeks to humanize them, to show they are more than simply just a label. They are somebody's children and they were all tragically taken far too soon.

Definitions:

Cisnormativity: The assumption that all human beings have a gender identity that matches the sex they were assigned at birth. This assumption results in the erasure of Trans individuals' experiences and needs, in addition to allowing for a system of discrimination and violence against trans people.

Transgender: Denoting or relating to a person whose gender identity does not correspond with the sex registered for them at birth.

Non-Binary: Denoting, having, or relating to a gender identity that does not conform to traditional binary beliefs about gender, which indicate that all individuals are exclusively either male or female

Mental Health Crisis: A mental health crisis is any situation in which a person's actions, feelings, and behaviors can lead to them hurting themselves or others, and/or put them at risk of being unable to care for themselves or function in the community in a healthy manner.

Marginalized: (of a person, group, or concept) treated as insignificant or peripheral.
