Depression is one of the most common mental disorders in the United States affecting more than 8% (21 million) of American adults each year.   15% of youth (3.7 million) ages 12-17 are affected by major depression. Depression (also called major depressive disorder or clinical depression) causes severe symptoms that affect how you feel, think, and handle daily activities, such as sleeping, eating, or working.
