Cary Stayner is an American serial killer who gained notoriety in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He was born on August 13, 1961, in Merced, California, and grew up in a troubled household. His younger brother Steven Stayner was kidnapped when he was seven years old and held captive by his abductor for seven years before he managed to escape. This traumatic event deeply affected Cary and his family.On February 15, 1999, Stayner abducted a woman named Carole Sund, her daughter Juli Sund, and their friend Silvina Pelosso from a motel near Yosemite National Park. He killed all three of them and later dumped their bodies in a remote location.A nature guide named Joie Ruth Armstrong, whom he killed on July 21, 1999, in Yosemite National Park, where he worked as a handyman. Her decapitated body was found near the park, and it was later discovered that Stayner had also killed three other women in the area.After the murders, Stayner fled the area and went to a nudist resort in Oregon, where he was eventually recognized and apprehended by the police. In 2002, he was convicted of the four murders and sentenced to death.
