OBEDIANCE

This is a two parter family lets talk about it…

obedience - compliance with an order, request, or law or submission to another authority - 95 occurrences in the Bible

The Bible emphasizes the importance of obedience to God throughout its pages. The phrase "obedience is better than sacrifice" is found in several passages, notably in 1 Samuel 15:22, where Samuel confronts King Saul for his disobedience. The idea behind this statement is that God values heartfelt obedience and submission to His will more than ritualistic sacrifices or offerings. Obedience demonstrates a genuine relationship with God and a willingness to align our lives with His purposes.

Here are some reasons why we should be obedient to the Lord based on various scriptures:

  1. God's Commandments: The Bible repeatedly calls us to obey God's commandments (Exodus 20:1-17; Deuteronomy 6:6-9; John 14:15). Obedience to His commands is a way to express our love for Him and demonstrate that we truly believe and trust in His wisdom.
  2. Blessings and Rewards: Obedience often leads to blessings from God. In Deuteronomy 28:1-14, God promises blessings to those who obey His commands, while disobedience leads to curses and negative consequences.
  3. Protection and Guidance: Obedience to God's word brings divine protection and guidance (Psalm 119:105). When we follow His path, He leads us in the right direction and protects us from harm.
  4. Spiritual Growth: Obedience is a part of our spiritual growth and maturity. As we obey God, we become more Christlike and reflect His character (1 Peter 1:14-15).
  5. Testimony to Others: Our obedience serves as a testimony to those around us. When others witness the change in our lives and our commitment to God, it can draw them to seek Him too (Matthew 5:16).
  6. Communion with God: Obedience fosters intimacy with God. Jesus said, "Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them" (John 14:21, NIV).

In summary, obedience is a vital aspect of our relationship with God. It shows our love for Him, brings blessings and protection, fosters spiritual growth, and helps us live according to His divine purposes. Obedience is not just a matter of rule-following; it flows from a heart that genuinely loves and trusts God.

All Prayed Up:

Dear Heavenly Father,

I come before You humbly, recognizing Your sovereignty and love. You are the perfect and faithful God, and I desire to obey Your commands and follow Your will for my life. Forgive me, Lord, for the times I have fallen short and rebelled against Your ways. I surrender myself to You completely and ask for Your help in living a life of obedience.

Lord, I know that obedience is better than sacrifice. Help me to understand Your word and Your ways, that I may walk in obedience to Your teachings. Open my eyes to see the areas of my life where I have strayed from Your path, and grant me the courage and strength to turn back to You.

I confess my weaknesses and the temptations that often lead me astray. Please, Lord, give me the power of Your Holy Spirit to resist sin and walk in righteousness. Fill me with a deep love for Your truth and a hunger for Your presence, that I may find joy and contentment in obeying Your commands.

Thank You, Heavenly Father, for hearing my prayer. I trust in Your faithfulness to answer and to guide me along the path of obedience. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
