Trust In God’s Protection, even in times of adversity and danger!
1-3 I’ve already run for dear life
straight to the arms of God.
So why would I run away now
when you say,
“Run to the mountains; the evil
bows are bent, the wicked arrows
Aimed to shoot under cover of darkness
at every heart open to God.
The bottom’s dropped out of the country;
good people don’t have a chance”?
4-6 But God hasn’t moved to the mountains;
his holy address hasn’t changed.
He’s in charge, as always, his eyes
taking everything in, his eyelids
Unblinking, examining Adam’s flesh and blood
inside and out, not missing a thing.
He tests the good and the bad alike;
if anyone cheats, God’s outraged.
Fail the test and you’re out,
out in a hail of firestones,
Drinking from a canteen
filled with hot desert wind.
7 God’s business is putting things right;
he loves getting the lines straight,
Setting us straight. Once we’re standing tall,
we can look him straight in the eye.
In this psalm, David starts by expressing his trust in the Lord as his refuge. He addresses those who advise him to flee to the mountains like a bird to escape danger, indicating that he will not give in to fear or abandon his trust in God.
David acknowledges that the wicked are plotting against the righteous, but he affirms his confidence in God's ability to see and judge the actions of both the righteous and the wicked. He portrays God as a just and observant ruler, seated on His heavenly throne, who examines the hearts and deeds of all people.
The psalmist emphasizes God's love for righteousness and justice and His hatred for violence and wickedness. He describes God's response to the wicked as raining fiery coals and burning sulfur upon them, highlighting the divine judgment they will face.
The psalm concludes with a declaration of God's righteousness and love for justice. The upright, those who live righteously and trust in God, are assured that they will ultimately see His face.
Psalm 11 serves as a reminder family of the importance of trusting in God's sovereignty and justice, especially when faced with challenges, adversity, or the schemes of the wicked. It encourages believers to remain steadfast in their faith and to rely on God's protection and guidance.
