Description

Arise, Lord!

PSALMS 3

A psalm of David. When he fled from his son Absalom.

1 Lord, how many are my foes!

How many rise up against me!

2Many are saying of me,

“God will not deliver him.”

3But you, Lord, are a shield around me,

my glory, the One who lifts my head high.

4I call out to the Lord,

and he answers me from his holy mountain.

5I lie down and sleep;

I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.

6I will not fear though tens of thousands

assail me on every side.

7Arise, Lord!

Deliver me, my God!

Strike all my enemies on the jaw;

break the teeth of the wicked.

8From the Lord comes deliverance.

May your blessing be on your people.

Psalm 3 is a psalm attributed to King David. It is written as a prayer of lament and trust in God's protection during a time of distress. Here is a brief overview of the meaning and key themes found in Psalm 3:

  1. Trust in God's Protection: The psalm begins with David acknowledging the multitude of enemies who have risen against him. Despite the threat, he expresses his trust in God's ability to be a shield and protector. David recognizes that safety comes from God alone.
  2. Cries for Deliverance: David shares his distress and cries out to God for help. He describes the magnitude of his troubles and the multitude of adversaries he faces. This portion of the psalm reflects the genuine emotions of fear, anxiety, and desperation in the face of difficult circumstances.
  3. Assurance of God's Answer: In the midst of his distress, David affirms his belief that God will answer his prayers. He recalls how God has been faithful in the past and delivered him from previous challenges. This assurance gives him hope and strengthens his faith.
  4. A Declaration of Victory: David declares his confidence in God's victory over his enemies. He proclaims that salvation belongs to the Lord and that God will bless His people. This declaration of trust and victory demonstrates David's firm belief in God's power and sovereignty.

Overall, Psalm 3 serves as a reminder of the importance of trust in God during times of trouble. It encourages us to turn to God for protection, deliverance, and ultimate victory over our adversaries. The psalm exemplifies the faith and reliance on God that characterized King David's life and encourages us to place our trust in God's unfailing love and faithfulness.
