Let’s Be Whole not a Hole

Whole - adjective - all of; entire in an unbroken or undamaged state; in one piece

noun - a thing that is complete in itself; all of something.

May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together - spirit, soul, and body - and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. - 1 Thessalonians 5:23

Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.

Psalm 119:2

With my whole heart have I sought thee:O let me not wander from thy commandments.

Psalm 119:10

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Ephesians 6:11

For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Matthew 16:26

But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.

Luke 8:50

Hole - noun - a hollow place in a solid body or surface; a small or unpleasant place verb - make a hole or holes in; an opening through something

They dig a hole to trap others, but they will fall into it themselves. They will get themselves into trouble; the violence they cause will hurt only themselves. - Psalms 7:15-16

In the Bible, the term "whole" carries different meanings depending on the context. Here are a few perspectives related to being whole and giving oneself wholly:

  1. Wholeness in relation to God's commandments: In the Old Testament, God gave the Israelites commandments and laws to follow in order to live a righteous and holy life. Being whole, in this sense, refers to adhering to God's commandments and living in obedience to His will. It implies being complete, lacking nothing, and living in alignment with God's moral and ethical standards.
  2. Wholeness through faith in Jesus: In the New Testament, Jesus teaches about spiritual wholeness and salvation through faith in Him. Jesus emphasized that true wholeness comes from a personal relationship with Him, acknowledging Him as the Son of God and the Savior. By surrendering our lives to Him, we are invited to experience spiritual healing, forgiveness, and a restored relationship with God.
  3. Giving our whole selves to God: Jesus instructs His followers to give their whole hearts, minds, and lives to God. This means dedicating ourselves fully to Him, submitting our desires, ambitions, and plans to His will. Jesus teaches that true discipleship requires loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and loving others as ourselves (Mark 12:30-31). It involves surrendering our self-centeredness and embracing a selfless love for God and others.

Regarding the cautionary aspect of "hole" in the Bible, the concept of being “hole” can also serve as a cautionary reminder. The Bible warns against being spiritually divided, double-minded, or lacking in commitment. Jesus teaches against being lukewarm in our faith (Revelation 3:16) and emphasizes the importance of wholehearted devotion to God (Matthew 6:24).

In summary, "wholeness" in the Bible encompasses living in obedience to God's commandments, experiencing spiritual healing through faith in Jesus, and giving our whole selves to God. It serves as an invitation to surrender our lives, emotions, desires, and plans to God, finding true fulfillment and purpose in Him. The cautionary aspect reminds us to guard against spiritual division, double-mindedness, and idolatry, and to pursue a wholehearted devotion to God.
