“Why Are You Afraid?”
Mark 4:36-40, And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” (ESV)
Don’t AbandonFear; Fear the Right Things
Psalm 111:10, The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever! (ESV)
Proverbs 8:13, The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate. (ESV)
Anchor Your Mind to The Promise of God
Matthew 14:25-27, Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” (ESV)
Joshua 1:8-9, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (ESV)
Choose to Walk by Faith and NOT By Sight
10 of the 12 Israelite spies: “We checked out the land, just as you’d instructed us to do, and here’s what we discovered: It is rich, very rich. One could say that it flows with milk and honey; but the people who already live there are really strong. Their cities are enormous and fortified. No way. We can’t do it. The people who are already there are too strong for us. The people themselves are gigantic. We look like grasshoppers compared to them, and they know it.” So the report of these other scouts was quite disheartening; it made the people question God’s promise. Numbers 13:27-29, 31-33 (Voice)
Caleb and Joshua: They said to all the people of Israel, “The land we traveled through and explored is a wonderful land! And if the Lord is pleased with us, he will bring us safely into that land and give it to us. It is a rich land flowing with milk and honey.Do not rebel against the Lord, and don’t be afraid of the people of the land. They are only helpless prey to us! They have no protection, but the Lord is with us! Don’t be afraid of them!” Numbers 14:7-9 (Voice)
