Theology on Tap OC's first talk for 2023 featured Deacon Bernie Ocampo of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Irvine. He spoke on how the smallest unit of society, the family, plays a role not just in the economy, but also politically in terms of subsidiarity. The closing discussion and Q&A was led by the lead organizer, Louie Calma.
Family is the original cell of social life (CCC 2207). However, with the American emphasis on the individual, freedom, and keeping up with the ever-rising cost of living, our duties and responsibilities towards the family becomes incidental. In what ways can we restore a vision that puts the family first in our culture? How does the Gospel manifest according to our state of life?
