In this episode I speak with Sean Litvak. Sean is a new connection for me and the conversations he and I have already had are great. Sean shares a wealth of knowledge he has gathered over the course of his life. We have a robust discussion about the importance of looking back at where you have come from to see your progress. One of the best thing for me in this episode is how important it is to believe in other people and share it with them.

Sean Litvak is the #1 Best-Selling author of Proverbs For Leadership and host of Litvak Leadership Live, a livestream podcast approaching 200 episodes, Mondays at 8:00 PM Eastern across YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter.

Early in life, people told Sean Litvak he talked too much. However, Sean has learned how to harness his tongue and has become far more moderated than when he was younger.

Sean discovered the importance of self-talk and how it could lead to sabotaging himself and others. This change in perspective has come through years of receiving feedback from others, sometimes encouraging and at other times discouraging or even harsh.

Often, Sean heard that he had too grand of expectations for himself and others. However, it was through these interactions that Sean learned his expectations were only for himself, not others, and the expectations others had for themselves were not his to improve upon unless asked to assist with a plan.

Sean subscribes to the philosophy that all leaders must be followers first before they earn areas of leadership authority. He also believes that even once someone achieves a leadership role, it is best for individuals to participate in other organizations or groups as team members, not the leader. Ultimately, Sean believes that always being in submission to another leader produces growth that is not found in self-improvement studies or only leading and not following.

Sean is passionate about helping people understand themself and improve and learn the importance of listening to others and not just engaging in conversation. His understanding of the value of listening has created an atmosphere that motivates others to group engagement and produced enjoyment on teams where Sean either leads or is an active participant following other leaders.

Sean Litvak is a native of the Chicagoland area, a graduate of the University of Illinois – Urbana/Champaign, and lives in southern Indiana outside Louisville, KY, with his wife, Lauren.
