Youth crime. It’s a big issue today. Why is there so much? Up here in Cairns, people have talked about punishing the parents for the crimes committed by their children. There’s something in that. Some fairness. But it’s not really a good idea. Because the real culprit is our society and the way we’ve let it develop. The model that we’ve brought in over the last 60 odd years from the Swinging Sixties, well, it’s slowly but surely runing our society into the ground – and we’re all being punished for that – just look at the youth crime. It hurts everyone. The kids, and the victims of the kids and the pain goes throughout the whole society.
Families are the foundations of our society – nothing there has changed or can change if we want a good strong, happy, society. But we seem to be really trying to destroy families. You know that cartoon, a man sitting on a tree branch high up. He’s sawing it off where it joins the tree trunk. When he saws through enough he’s going to fall to the ground. And if we damage our families enough we’re all going to be in a total mess.
So we need to look back at what makes relationships work and last, to have well adjusted children brought into the world to end youth crime, along with a whole lot else that’s going wrong today.
As Jordan Peterson said, your goal as a parent should be not to allow your children to do anything that makes you dislike them.
The thing that you’re most going to need, to be a successful parent, is a time machine. You might think that that’s ridiculous, but you actually have one, you just don’t know it, so I’m going to tell you about your time machine and it’s time to start using it.
