In this episode of The School Run podcast, hosts Jane and Liv have a conversation with Nigel Toplis, a successful entrepreneur, author of several books, and previous chairman of the British Franchising Association. With over two decades of experience in business, Nigel shares his insights and advice on franchising, building relationships, and giving back to the community.
Nigel says it as it is, believes in the traditional ways of doing business by ‘building relationships’ and he gave some wise words to Liv from 25 years in business!
He grew up and was educated in Singapore and now spends half the year in South Africa.
Nigel talks about his background and journey as an entrepreneur, how he got into franchising, and what he has learned along the way with his mentors. He emphasizes the importance of building relationships and trust in business, and how this is the key to success in franchising. He also shares his thoughts on the challenges facing the franchising industry, and what he believes is needed to overcome them.
Apart from his business acumen, Nigel is also passionate about wildlife conservation, particularly elephants. He talks about his love for South Africa and his adopted elephant, Tembo, and how he raises money for charity to support the protection and rehabilitation of elephants.
During the interview, Nigel's frank and direct approach to business reminded Liv of Alan Sugar, and Jane praised him as one of her trusted mentors in franchising. Nigel also shares his love for sports and walking, and how he believes that you get out of life what you put in.
Nigel Toplis' insights and experiences in business and franchising are valuable for anyone interested in entrepreneurship or considering franchising as a business model. His passion for wildlife conservation and giving back to the community is an inspiration to us all.
