Description

Ricky Riley’s journey in the fire service began back in
1979 when he became a junior firefighter in Ocean City, Maryland. With a career spanning over four decades, Ricky has become a well-respected figure in the firefighting community. His story is not just one of service and dedication but also of entrepreneurial spirit, leading to the creation of a thriving training company, Traditions Training.

Ricky began his career as a firefighter with the volunteer
fire department in Ocean City, Maryland. He then moved up to the Washington, D.C., area, where he was hired by the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. Over the next 20 years, Ricky honed his skills and expertise,
transitioning from firefighter to acting as a Battalion Training Officer. During this period, he was mentored and shaped by influential colleagues who instilled in him the importance of continuous learning and dedication to the craft.

The seed for Traditions Training was planted in the early
2000s, spurred on by Pete Lund, a 30-year veteran of the FDNY. Pete, who retired shortly after 9/11, envisioned a training company that would help firefighters across the country by sharing real-world experiences and practical
knowledge. Ricky and Pete were motivated by a shared goal: to combat complacency in the fire service and to ensure firefighters were always proactive and prepared.

The tragic loss of Pete Lund in 2005 was a significant blow
to Ricky and the company. Pete’s passing during a house fire shook the team, but they continued, honoring his legacy by sticking to the principles he
believed in. This period of reflection and reorganization led to the firm’s eventual growth and even greater success.

Today, Ricky Riley continues to push the envelope with
Traditions Training. The company has evolved to include not just training sessions but also apparatus specifications and consulting services. They have adjusted their models to fit the needs of modern firefighters, offering
succinct, impactful training sessions that respect the time constraints of today’s professionals.

Ricky’s dedication to his craft and his company’s mission
remains steadfast. He continues to hire new instructors who bring fresh perspectives and new ideas, ensuring that Traditions Training is always at the forefront of firefighter education.
